The Hazel Neck is worked from the top down. First the back is worked, then the shoulders and then the front. At the end, stitches are picked up around the neckline opening for the turtleneck collar. The collar is folded double and knitted together on the wrong side.

Begin by knitting a swatch to find out which needle size will give you the correct gauge. Wash and block the swatch before measuring gauge.

If you choose to knit the Hazel Neck in a different yarn than the recommended, take care to choose a yarn where the rib “unfolds”/“opens up” after washing.

Measurements: Length: 50 (55) cm [19¾ (21¾) inches] (mid back excl. turtleneck collar)

Shoulder width: approx. 41 (47) cm [16¼ (18½) inches]

Gauge: 20 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in 3 x 3 rib (k3, p3) on 4 mm [US6] needles after wash and blocking

Needles: 4 mm [US6] / 60 cm [24 inches] and 3.5 mm [US4] / 40 cm [16 inches] circular needles

Materials: 200 (250) g Jensen by Isager Yarn (50 g = 125 m [137 yds]) held together with 75 (75) g Silk Mohair by Isager Yarn (25 g = 212 m [232 yds]) or Tilia by Filcolana (25 g = 210 m [230 yds]) or Brushed Lace by Mohair by Canard (25 g = 210 m [230 yds]) or Kid Seta by Gepard Yarn.
